Q. Can you name 3 important cities in Alaska? -Chad
A. Sure, I can. From a personal opinion standpoint, they would probably Anchorage, Juneau, and Fairbanks. Well, ‘opinion’ plus the fact that they are the larger population centers. Here is how they stack up:
Anchorage’s population is about 277,498 and it was incorporated in 1920.
Juneau has 30,966 souls and was incorporated in 1900.
Fairbanks boasts a population of 29,954 and became a city in 1903.
Fairbanks is in the northern part of the state, Anchorage more in the middle, and Juneau in the southern part of Alaska.
Juneau boasts the distinction of being our state capitol. I think it is probably the only capitol in the country where the general populace can’t just drive there. Yep! It is strictly fly in. Makes it rather unhandy for those of us who might like to drop in and make sure they are doing it right! If I can provide you with any more info, just let me know. -Bonnie J.
